The Importance of Building Leadership in the Church
Men hold an extraordinarily important position in the church as they have been tasked by our mighty God to be spiritual leaders. Men are our heads of households, leaders of nations and visionaries that bring forth the growth of a great church. For this reason men’s roles are essential for the development of the full potential of Godly men in Christ.
Men will best discover their natural leadership abilities by giving them leadership responsibilities. That doesn’t mean simply put them in charge and “throw them to the wolves” so to speak.
While a well organized church will have programs that foster fellowship, provide support and guidance and otherwise strengthen the community of men, its primary focus should be to develop leaders that will help it grow. This leadership is vitally important because, without it, a church can stagnate. Aside from building the leadership within the church, these skills carry out into the world and create better servants for Christ while the word of God is transmitted and multiplied.
How do you effectively build up the natural, God-given leadership skills within your men? This is a tough question, because obviously it cannot be taught in a classroom. Sitting at a desk does not effectively teach leadership just as it doesn’t effectively teach riding a bicycle or cooking a pizza. Beyond that, leadership isn’t a purely technical skill that can be fully “taught.” It is a part of the male DNA, programmed by the ultimate designer and must be brought to the surface, cultivated and refined. This is achieved best by giving your men Kingdom Responsibilities.
The Magic of Men’s Ministry
Men will best discover their natural leadership abilities by giving them leadership responsibilities. That doesn’t mean simply put them in charge and “throw them to the wolves” so to speak. If you delegate to them minor responsibilities within a smaller group, it will allow them to grow under the guidance of more experienced leaders. One way to do this is by putting your men on a ministry team that has other dynamic leaders. This will allow them to see leadership in action, demonstrated by others. It also gives them a mentor to look after them and encourage them.
A male-specific ministry helps to foster and grow the innate power that was bestowed upon all men by our almighty Lord. It allows the future spiritual leaders of your church to develop themselves in Christ as well as do good work.
By bestowing kingdom responsibilities on your men and sending them out into God’s world through a ministry team, you’ll ensure the growth and prosperity of your church, the spread of Christ’s love and the development of Godly servants who will fruitfully beget more Godly servants.
